With the AUD/USD exchange rate at around $0.75, we were very concerned that our journey around the USA would eat up our budget in no time. Below is our financial spend on our USA trip between November 2016 and early January 2017.
Check out our articles on what we did during the 41 days after the TCS New York City Marathon:
- The costs are based upon a couple travelling together.
- We did not travel as part of an organised tour but as individual travelers.
- Not considered is the entry or exit transport into/out of the country.
Where We Travelled
Despite the fact that we arrived in San Francisco in late October 2016, our budget and actual spending calculations only started once the family returned home and Sandra and I started our minimalist journey on our own.
Travel Costs Summary Table
|Country: USA||USD per person per day|
|Total USD per person per day||$103.51|
We were in New York when we started this leg of our journey. Our airfare to return to the USA from Canada was paid for by air points. We also used air points getting out of the USA, and only paid taxes.
One of the reasons we stayed in North America after the TCS New York City Marathon was to experience New Year’s Eve in Times Square. The accommodation cost for six nights over the New Year period was USD639 and the cost of the tickets to Rosie O’Grady’s for New Year’s Eve was USD902 (not included in above). In hindsight, we didn’t get the personal value we sought in doing this experience. That said, we absolutely enjoyed ourselves.
