The GlobeRider45 is a clamshell design with one large open main compartment and two zipped 80/20 pockets on the opposite side. It also has a dedicated rear laptop compartment, a large top quick-access pocket, and multiple other organisation pockets (including a hidden one for your passport).

The pack is PFAS-free with Bluesign® approved recycled nylon, waterproof fabrics and weather-sealed zippers. The adjustable and stowable harness, load lifters and stashable hip belt mean you can carry heavy loads comfortably.

There are a few compromises too. At 2.04 kg, it is the (joint) second-heaviest pack on our shortlist. And its dimensions of 58 × 37 × 27cm exceed common international carry-on limits (though Paul never had an issue taking his pack on board). The main zipper is noticeably stiff. While this contributes to the pack's outstanding weather protection and security, it requires more effort to open and close than any other pack we've tested. While Matador supports all its packs through its in-house repair program, it offers only a 3-year warranty.
